Flat Cables

AKY Cable supplies flat cables designed for specialised applications requiring space-efficient, flexible cabling solutions. The flat profile allows installation in tight spaces where round cables are impractical, and provides superior flex life for reeling, trailing and continuous bending applications. Widely used in the Australian & New Zealand construction, mining, port and events industries.

1. Power Flat Cables

  • Conductor: Class 5 flexible tinned copper
  • Insulation: PVC, EPR or silicone rubber
  • Sheath: PVC or PCP (Neoprene) — flat profile, abrasion resistant
  • Voltage Rating: 450/750V
  • Temperature Range: –15°C to +90°C
  • AU/NZ Applications:
    • Power distribution in confined ceiling spaces, floor ducts and cable trenches
    • Stage & event power — touring production, concert lighting and sound systems
    • Building services — lift and escalator travelling cables
    • Portable power distribution for construction sites and temporary works

2. Tower Crane Flat Cables

  • Conductor: Class 5 flexible tinned copper — extra fine stranding for high flex life
  • Insulation: EPR or rubber compound — high mechanical strength
  • Sheath: PCP (Neoprene) or PUR — abrasion, weather and UV resistant
  • Voltage Rating: 0.6/1kV or 1.9/3.3kV
  • Temperature Range: –25°C to +90°C
  • Designed for: Continuous flexing, reeling and trailing under high mechanical stress
  • AU/NZ Applications:
    • Tower crane power supply and control — high-rise construction in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane
    • Construction hoists, material lifts and concrete placing booms
    • Port & harbour equipment — ship-to-shore cranes, container gantries
    • Mining reeling drums — draglines, shovels and drill rig trailing cables
    • Rail & transport — gantry cranes, overhead line maintenance equipment

Why Choose Flat Cables?

  • Space saving — flat profile fits in tight cable trays, ducts and floor channels
  • Superior flex life — significantly outperforms round cables in reeling and bending applications
  • Better heat dissipation — flat profile improves thermal performance in bundled installations
  • Kink-free installation — lies flat, no twisting or coiling issues during lay-in

Custom Options Available:

  • Custom conductor sizes, core counts and colour coding per Australian standard
  • Choice of sheath material — PVC (standard), PCP/Neoprene (mechanical), PUR (abrasion)
  • Flat cable to AS/NZS 3000 requirement — suitable for permanent and temporary installations
  • Sheath printing with customer branding, voltage rating and standard marking
